Sun damage Pigmentation

Age spots are also known as sun spots, liver spots, lentigos, or lentigines. These lesions are flat, tan, brown, or dark brown spots on sun-exposed skin. As people age, sun spots most commonly appear on the backs of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest, and face. Sun spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. The pigment producing cells in the skin (called melanocytes) are activated to produce more pigment (melanin) by ultraviolet rays. While these spots are not themselves cancerous, you may be at risk for skin cancer if you have them.

IPL therapy at Chantal beauty salon offers a solution that is safe, effective, and only takes a few treatments to achieve exceptional results. Laser resurfacing has been successfully used for the reduction of the appearance of age spots and other discolorations. Using various intensities of laser light, laser resurfacing ablates damaged and other tissue without incisions, encouraging the growth of new, healthy, normally-pigmented skin. The procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes, and your results may take a while to be fully revealed, but they can last for years. This is often viewed as the best anti-aging treatment option available.

How does Laser Pigmentation Work?

The Intense Pulse Light System releases short pulses of filtered light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within freckles, sun spots or liver spots. The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and eradicates the melanin-rich cells.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned individuals. However, large, raised and dark pigmentation cannot be treated and may need to be assessed by our Medical Advisor. Dark moles should not be treated nor would we advise IPL for melasma as this would be better suited to fractional laser.

What does treatment feel like?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a warm, tingling sensation not unlike sunburn is experienced afterwards.

What will I look like after treatment?

The skin may be slightly red and the pigment marks will darken and may appear more obvious before they fade away.

Are there any side effects?

Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling, which usually disappear within hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur.

We could also reccomend a seires of Dermaquest Skin Brite peel and home care which is the perfect combination treatment regime to achieve enhanced and lasting results and lasting skin lightening.
